Glass Boat Tour

This glass bottom boat cruises around through the Tsunekami Marine Park. As you gaze into the beautiful underwater world from the glass-bottom boat, a wide variety of fishes which live at this converging point of warm and cold currents await you in the underwater forest of seaweeds. The sea is usually gentle and calm, and the clarity of the water is even 25 meters far – you can enjoy the fantastic underwater landscape.

By train/bus: Take the local bus bound for Tsunekami at JR Mikata Station. Get off the bus at “Tsunekami” bus stop.

Sea Fishing Park Mikata

Everyone from complete beginners to experienced anglers can enjoy sea fishing at this park. For empty-handed visitors, we rent everything needed for fishing such as rods and baits. For the families with kids, we have safety-conscious “Family course.” You can catch a lot of fish. In our “Expert course,” visitors can experience the full-blown surf fishing.
You can cook your catches at the BBQ garden in the park.

Fishing Boat

In Wakasa Bay, there are many fishing points that impress fishing enthusiasts. Various kinds of fishing available, such as boat fishing, shore fishing, and raft fishing. Most of the inns in Wakasa-cho are run by fishermen, so many of them own their own fishing boats. Why don’t you share your fish anecdote at an inn at Wakasa?

Fishing with Ojikiami (big fishing net)

This is a traditional fishing method to catch the various kinds of fishes, mainly coming-up-north yellowtails, with the fixed large nettings placed at Tsunekami, Miko, Ogawa, and Sekumi at one fell swoop. In this tour, you can see the fishing on the fishing boats. You will be surprised and have great fun to see live fish jump up and down in the big nets in front of your eyes.

Kaisuiyoku (Sea bathing)

In summer, the Wakasa Bay is crowded with sea bathers. To get the best of summertime in Wakasa, visitors are recommended to then try the local sea food at a guest house or Japanese inn. Some inns also take guests to a deserted island by fishing boat.

Fukui Prefectural Seaside Nature Center (Wakasa Mikata Marine Park)

Fukui Prefectural Seaside Nature Center is a facility to experience and learn about the natural environment of the sea. At the center, various kinds of fishes in the touching pool welcome the visitors. You can feed the fish in the pool. Also, you can join the varieties of experiencing events, such as snorkeling and sea shore observation for free of charge (Reservation is required). Sea is full of energy and a source of good health. Why don’t you come to the sea of Wakasa Bay to feel the energy by yourself!

In Wakasa Town there are over 100 lodging places.
